5 out of 5 stars Wow.   June 12, 2010

I'm posting this review after 2 solid weeks of use every day on a 2300 sqft home. I didn't intend to use it that much that quick, but I really enjoy tools that work and this one definitely does. I have 2 large dogs and had a Eureka on it's last leg - the home would smell like wet dog every time we would vacuum even though it had a brand new bag and HEPA filter installed. I read some reviews on a different model by Hoover, went to the big box store, but they didn't have the model I had done so much research on. I took a shot in the dark and brought this one home with no research just because I liked the idea of the retractable cord. THIS VACUUM IS FANTASTIC. I had previously been researching the Dysons as well and had even used a few before - this vacuum performs every bit as good if not better for way less money. I can't believe how much dog hair, dirt, and dust it sucked up out of the carpet and off the tile, and now the house smells clean and fresh - no more dog smell! The on-board pet brush is fantastic too. I unintentionally gave it a durability test when I accidentally tipped it over just after unpacking it and cringed as the handle slammed into the tile floor - this is how my friend broke his Dyson - Hoover took it like a champ. No damage.

Regarding other reviews I saw one that indicated the brush won't work after 3 uses - mine still does after over a dozen HEAVY uses.

I read another that complained about the belt - the belt on mine says Good-Year and it hasn't broken, frayed, or slowed down at all.

One review called it a boat anchor and said it's impossible to carry - IT'S 23 POUNDS YOU WEENIE, and it's on WHEELS. That's about what a typical 1 to 2 yr old child weighs. In all fairness, if you have a 2 story and are elderly and/or handicapped in some way then perhaps this vacuum may weigh a bit too much for you. I haven't had to lift it since I took it out of the box, so...

Some are commenting that it's messy to empty - there are two ways to empty it: there is a door that swings open at the bottom and drops the dirt out, or you can unlock the top by twisting it, remove the cone, and gently dump the contents into the trash without creating a could of dust... that also keeps the seal on the bottom of the trap door from getting dirty. The retractable cord has been awesome. What you probably wouldn't guess unless I told you or you read the name is that I'm a man and don't typically like to vacuum. My girlfriend is ecstatic that I enjoy vacuuming the house, and has even gone so far as to take pictures of me doing it to prove it. When I wanted a great drill that would last I bought a DeWalt - still have it and love to use it. When I wanted a truck I bought an F-150 - over 200K miles and still rolling. Now I lucked out and have a vacuum that has really improved the cleanliness of the house.

If I ever have a problem then I will by all means update this review, but so far I'm impressed.

5 out of 5 stars I don't understand....   July 20, 2010

.... all the negative reviews on this vacuum. I've had it for 3 months and it's the best vacuum I've ever owned. I almost didn't purchase this model based on the negative comments but we've had good luck with Hoover products in the past and wanted something that would help deal with Pet hair. The suction on this unit is great. The only negative I've found is the length of the hose, but we've learned to live with that. I make sure that I set the dial for the correct carpet height and if I'm vacuuming throw rugs or anything with fringe, I turn the beater bar off. I'd buy this vacuum again with no regrets.

4 out of 5 stars Best Affordable Vacuum   November 4, 2009

This vacuum walks circles around my 10-year-old Hoover Windtunnel bagged vacuum. If you have kids and pets, you vacuum daily like I do. My home is small and so is my budget, so this affordable model covers all the bases for me. Emptying the collection bin is a bit messy, but it is worth it to me to never have to purchase bags again. I empty it into a closed grocery bag, and I'm sure I'll get better at this over time. With a lot of cat hair to pick up that has been left behind by my old vacuum, I have had to brush off the filter several times, again, not a big deal to me. The hose is sturdy and long, and the cord rewind feature is a plus. I like the fact that the beater does not run when the vacuum is in the upright position, and has an on-off switch for hard floors. It does make a squeaking noise when stopping and starting, which troubles me a bit. I only gave this product 4 stars for now, but will update after owning for a few more months.

4 out of 5 stars Overall Wonderful   July 8, 2010

My husband and I purchased this vacuum 2 weeks ago, and we LOVE it. Our dog is a heavy shedder, and it does a wonderful job picking up her hair, plus everything else on the carpet. The bare floor option does a wonderful job as well, mainly because when the brush is not turning the vacuum doesn't just blow dirt/hair around the room. Also, this vacuum is amazingly quiet. The only real complaint that I have about this vacuum is that I wish the hose was a little longer. I have seen where others have complained about the weight of the vacuum, which I do not think is all that bad (and I'm 7 months pregnant!) However, my suggestion for those people would be to adjust the brush height setting. Also, I have found it is a little messy to empty the canister from the bottom, so I opt to dump the canister from the top.

4 out of 5 stars Good Vacuum - really helps with pet hair!   July 9, 2010
Nancy
My mother bought me this vacuum for Christmas because I have a cat and was getting ready to move in with my boyfriend who is allergic to cats. This vacuum works great! I vacuum three times a week and use the pet attachment and I never see a cat hair in this place. My boyfriend's allergies have been great! I did notice that if it is too full it will shut down. This is a precautionary measure so as long as you keep it emptied it will run fine! I empty it on the balcony and haven't found it to be particularly messy. It is quite heavy but that would be the only downfall that I see. I hope this review was helpful. I read the reviews here after my mother gave me this vacuum and was quite nervous about it. But as long as you take good care of it, I think you'll be happy with it!
